  2. Complete training in an area with minimal distractions to start, add distraction, difficulty and duration once you and your dog are more confident.
  3. Ensure the treats you are using are appropriate, and enticing enough but not too much to cause over-excitement or distraction from the task at hand!
  4. Be patient and consistent, feeling like the training isn't going according to plan? Stop and try again later.
  5. Little and often is the key to successful training and learning.
  6. Have an idea of what you're going to teach or practice, but don't be afraid to adapt to your dog's needs.
  7. Make it fun and enjoy the process.
  8. End on success.
  9. Never punish your dog or yourself if training doesn't meet expectations.
